Tulane's Yulman Stadium
It’s been a year now since Tulane’s Yulman Stadium opened, and the Greenwaves have made their home in New Orleans’ Marlyville neighborhood. Every week from the beginning of September through the end of November, fans clad in green and blue flock to the stadium to tailgate and cheer on their team.
Before its opening, Yulman Stadium ran into some pushback from nearby residents concerned about problems the 30,000 person-capacity stadium might bring to the neighborhood, including litter, noise, and street closures.
Determined to make the residents more comfortable with the idea, Tulane held meetings with residents for them to voice those concerns. A year later, locals are embracing the stadium, and feel it has made a positive impact on the neighborhood.
“We welcome activity to the Tulane Campus,” says neighborhood resident Kelly Wolf. “I’m happy to have Yulman Stadium and I am an LSU fan!”

Some residents even say the stadium is less of a problem than the university students themselves.
“The litter isn’t any more or less than during the school year… I find the students in my neighborhood cause more day to day problems,” says Anne Mueller.
With many of Tulane’s home games occurring after 7 pm, the disruption is minimal, says Mary Klinefelter.
“We have no issues or even increased parking in the neighborhood. I’m happy for Tulane and we’re excited to attend a game just walking distance away!”

In its second year, Yulman stadium has gained the trust of its neighbors, and the people living in the area have begun to appreciate its presence. Despite its rocky beginnings, the stadium is now a hub of life in the neighborhood, bringing families and people of all ages to games weekly.
Tulane’s efforts have paid off, and people in the neighborhood have allowed the stadium to become a part of their daily routine. With many more years to come, Yulman will become a New Orleans staple, and will bring countless days of fun and memories to the city’s families.
